Japanese Tea Set 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Hello! I'm hoping someone here can help as I simply have no idea where else to go!

My husband and I came across a tea set at a recent estate sale and we fell in love with it. But I cannot seem to find anything about it. I am not an expert in tea sets, especially not Japanese work, and I'm hoping someone here is.

My research suggests several things including Dragonware. There are images below. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the bottom - I will update when I can - but the bottom has a raised star design on it and says "handmade in Japan". The star is what I can't seem to find any information on.

I'm not looking for it to be some rare, worth-a-lot find. I'm just wanting information. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I just happened to buy a tea set just like this 3 wks ago. Mine has a different flower pattern. I have 5 japanese ceramic books and each book has about 170 marks. Japan used thousands of marks. I found one mark that has a raised star w/ words Made in Japan. Usually they say Hand Painted, I never seen one that has Handmade on the bottom. Any way the raised star was registered by Aichi Prefecture in Tokoname City and made and sold from Marugo Seito Sho Inc. They were in business from 1950 and closed in 1980. Your set is not dragonware thats just a name given to pieces that have what look like snakes with dragon heads. Price guide books have these complete sets at $150-$180.00. Have a good day and that is a beautiful set!!

Carolyn67 - thank you so much for the insight! That is a ton of help. I have also included what the bottom of the set looks like, in case it helps at all. Thanks again!

Re:Japanese Tea Set 2 Months, 1 Week ago
too funny...I just bought the coffee set for 4 yesterday for 11.00.

RS, under a rising sun with Made in Japan mark. Mine does not have a raised star.

I have seen posters calling it "Rising Star", but I think "Rising Sun" makes more sense for Japanese.

It's luster ware.
