Monmouth Indian Teepee Pitcher 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I have a pitcher which I have tentatively identified as a Monmouth Indian Teepee Pitcher. (Not the one in my avatar picture) My Great Grandparents used it in their restaurant in Orleans Nebraska in the 1920's. There is one identified on the home page if you search for it. It is for sale on ebay. My question is that the one for sale states no stamp or marking on the bottom. My pitcher has the marking shown in this photo. I would appreciate any additional information.

Your pitcher was made in Monmouth, Illinois between 1906 -1930. It was one of among many companies copying the original Sleepy eye made in Sleepy Eye Minnesota. Copies are still being made today. Yours is an very old one, but not worth as much as the original Sleey eye that is worth in the 100rds. Western Stoneware co. pretty much marked all their items. Sleepy Eye has an Indian Head for a mrk plus sleepy eye. Those that are on e-bay that say Sleepy eye monmouth is wrong and those that don't have a mark its hard to know who made it. I would say yours is worth more because your's is marked very well and there is a lot of collectors out there who love old monmouth pottery especially Ill & Ia. people. This info come from books that I have on monmouth & sleepy eye.

Thank you carolyn67. That is the information I needed. My Great Grandfather was from Iowa and Great Grandmother was from Illinois. They probably bought the pitcher before moving to Nebraska. I'm not sure I would sell this one because it is piece of family history.
