purinton pottery 3 Months, 1 Week ago
Can anyone tell me about Purinton pottery Intaglia done in carmel (caramel) color.
I read somewhere that this was an experimental line and I have quite a few pieces.
And does anyone know any prices?

I live about 20 miles from Knox where this was made.

I can't find any info anywhere.

Thanks!

Here is some info from Lehners pottery and porcelian. The factory was located in Shippenville,Penn from 1942-1959. Slip ware was cast and then later pressed. They added colored minerals. Glaze was applied by dipping The decorated ware and was only fired once. For awhile some was made in Wellsville,Ohio beginning in 1936 then moved to Pennsylvania. They do not have a high value. Kovels have a lot listed as Intaglio and the color is Desert Brown. Prices range from $12.50 to $30.00. I don't know what your pieces are but you can get prices from Kovel's price Guide

I have a book by Susan Morris. It's old, 1994.

On page 238, under chapter 12, Unusual and Unique Items, on the bottom of the page, shows Carmel Intaglio-style. It says probably an experimental line.

It is not brown. It is caramel colored and the pattern is different than that of the other Intaglio lines and colors.

Any idea???

Hi Casey, I did find some more info from a book by Harvey Duke and here is what hes written>>>>Intaglio was made in six colors.Brown is the most common,Turquoise a little scarcer, Baby blue, Caramel, Coral & Sapphire are very hard to find. Then he discribes patterns & decorations. Pricing: Prices below are for brown. Add 20% for Turquoise. Add 50% for other colors. So they probably were experimental colors. So the price for 11inch salad bowl in brown is $65.00. Double that for caramel would be $130.00 Thank you for your reply and your right. There is a caramel color thats not even mentioned in other books I have nor in Kovels.

Thanks a bunch! Everyone thought I was crazy for buying these. I have 7 serving pieces and a set of 8 of the dessert bowls. Paid $15 for all.
I knew I was right!

Thanks for your time and effort. Have a wonderful day!

Casey

Me again, I think I made a mistake, I'm terrible at math, At 50% more I don't think its double . On a $65.00 piece it should be $32.50 more? I'll let you figure it out. Anyway you got a good buy.
