I have a miniature portrait of Mquis de Lafayette & the only information I can find on it is this with no mention of value unless I buy a subscription - anyone with any information as to worth?
Very old presented as a gift to first class passengers (I've read) of the 1863 Ocean liner/dampfer/paquebot/ship Lafayette ( one of three named after the Marquis) of the French Line, during ( I beleive) her last 1905 voyage. Plaque underneath the portrait is marked : M quis De La Fayette, and underneath Presented by French Line. The portrait itself is signed by José Roy who was an active artist between 1886-1905. ( I could not find any other information) The portrait is protected by glass itself encased in wood with a brass rim. On the back is the stamp of the Societe Generale d'Impression then located at 21, rue Ganneron, Paris, which was active in the 1900's . I do guarantee that it is from the late 1800's-early 1900's and that it was made for the French Line.
I have a photo available but was not able to upload due to size restrictions - will email if needed
thanks
