$1,216,000 is the new record price for an auctioned weather vane. The locomotive vane sold at Northeast Auctions August 6, surpassing the $1,080,000 price paid in January for a Liberty weather vane. The locomotive brought more than six times the $185,000 price paid at a 1987 auction when it was last sold. It was put on the top of the Depot Building of the Providence and Worcester Railway in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, in 1882 and removed in the 1960s. Several other similar weather vanes are known.
