Designers of very expensive luxury items like handbags are discovering the maker’s logo is no longer trendy. A design with identifiable wide stripes like the one used by Prada in 2011 is subtle and yet attracts those who want a prestigious bag from an important designer. Prada’s best seller is still the black nylon bag introduced in 1984. It’s lightweight and waterproof and easier to carry than heavy leather bags. It was brought back in 2009 and is being featured this year in 15 classic styles and four new ones because nylon seems be coming back in fashion. Few women save a purse for 20 years, so most old ones are gone. Today’s large purses are bought to be used for several years–an investment, not a fad purchase.
