Q: I have a collection of porcelain birds with this mark on the bottom. I can't identify the mark or maker. Can you find out who made them?

A: Porcelain Factory Karl Ens used this mark from 1900 until about 1945. The company was in business in Volkstedt, Thuringia, Germany, from 1898 to 1972. It made figurines, giftware, and other decorative porcelain. The company was nationalized in 1972 and renamed Underglaze Porcelain Factory. It became part of the Sitzendorfer Porcelain Factory in 1974. Following Germany's reunification in 1990, the factory returned to private ownership.
