Midcentury Scandinavian designs fit well into today’s favored floor plans, rooms with wooden floors and open spaces. Scandinavian midcentury modern furniture, with its simple finishes and good craftsmanship, appeals to younger buyers. Names like Hans Wegner, Arne Jacobsen, Finn Juhl and Verner Panton may be unfamiliar to these buyers, but the “look” is selling well. Of course, pieces by famous designers bring the highest prices: a sideboard can cost $1,500; a wall clock, under $400; a plastic and metal chair, $150; and a Bjorn Wiinblad plate, $100. Nameless pieces cost less. Scandinavian design was popular in the United States by the 1960s and many pieces can be found here.
