The first iced chocolate drinks were probably introduced in the 1660s by the Earl of Sandwich. He prepared cacao beans, put the powder in a carafe of snow and stirred in some salt. Then he shook the mixture until it made a thick iced drink. Chocolate became famous and coffeehouses sold chocolate drinks, which were said to cause hemorrhoids and insomnia and damage the stomach, heart and lungs. Guess there were chocoholics back then, too.
