Help identify vanity
This vanity was purchased in western Pennsylvania in a second hand store in the 50's. It had been painted but is now refinished. The wood is gorgeous - curly maple, oak, walnut. The mirror has decorative etching. I'd love to identify the manufacturer and current value if possible:

What is a Chinoiserie? 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
This piece of furniture was given to me by a family member but neither one of us know much about it. It was originally in my grand parents house. I have been told it is called a chinoiserie. I would like to know what it actually is, where it might have come from and the date that it may have been made. It is a very nice piece that I want to display in my home. Any information that someone can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Re:what is it 2 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I keep posting in places but know one can tell me anything about this chair. I bought in Northeastern Ohio on the PA line 30 years ago. The seat is one solid piece of wood, so is the back. There is a number stenciled on the bottom 769. As far as I can tell it has it's original black paint. I would love to know something about it. It seems like I've seen something similar but I don't know where. HELP!!!

If you cannot find a makers name then it's almost impossible to find the true maker. Even experts get things wrong.I have many books on furniture and very few are indentified. They are only discribed as Edwardian, Provincial, Regency style,Queen Anne etc.etc.etc. There was so many manufactories and men working in private shops. As far as value, furniture values are down in the market today, I've seen pictures simuliar to your's and the prices range from $1800-$3,000.00. If it were mine I would ask myself" What would I pay to buy it?"
