Q: Does old sheet music have any value? We have some published between 1880 and the 1940s. We’re trying to raise money for a local charity and thought we could frame some of the more colorful ones and see if they would sell. We don’t know what to charge for them. Can you tell us?

A: A piece of sheet music published in the 20th century usually sells for about $5. Earlier sheet music may sell for more, especially if the cover is interesting, colorful or appeals to collectors. Most collectors want sheet music that’s complete, untrimmed, unframed and in good condition. Start at $5 to $30 for unframed examples. Ask more if they’re very unusual.

I have round 30 leather bound books of sheet music that contains 30 plus sheets of music in each book. All books are alphabetical and contain sheets from various scores . For instance in he A-D book it contains sheets:
A Bird In A Gilded Cage, After The Ball; “Showboat”,
Alice Blue Gown; “Irene”, All Alone,Irving Berlin , By the Light of the Silvery Moon, Bill Bailey, Won’t You Please C0me Home and many more just in that one book.
My question is where would I start to have these books looked at to be appraised?
    Thank you for any help.
