American Coverlets and Their Weavers by Clarita Anderson (Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Williamsburg, VA, in association with Ohio University Press, Athens, OH, $39.95, c2002, 247 pages) is an illustrated guide to the McCarl collection of 700 American woven coverlets. Included are a history of coverlets and how they were made, as well as a biographical dictionary of the weavers. The author also explains the meaning behind the patterns. This is an important book for collectors.
