Q: My grandfather, who lived in Toronto, Canada, worked for Silks, Ltd., in the 1920s and traveled to Japan as part of his responsibilities. He died in 1924 and the family lost the estate in 1929. This is one of two vases the family held on to. It is 10 inches tall and has raised dots on a dotted gold ribbon and gold-covered bands on the bottom, middle, and top. The bottom says “Hand Painted” and “Nippon” under a leaf symbol. We live in earthquake-prone California. Is this vase of value? Should we insure it?
