Contemporary glass includes pieces by glass artists working after 1970. Many of these pieces are free-form, one-of-a-kind sculptures. American studio glassmakers in the 1970s combined traditional techniques like free-blown shaping and engraving with modern materials like plastic and metal plates. Paperweights by contemporary artists are listed in the Paperweight category. Earlier studio glass may be found listed under Glass-Midcentury or Glass-Venetian.
