Cartouches Cartouches

Pottery & Porcelain Marks – Cartouches: Flowery cartouches have either the name of the pattern or the maker in the middle, underneath. Cartouches usually go with the style of the day. During the Victorian era, when they first appeared, they were more elaborate and flowery. During the 20th century and into the present, they have become less ornate and more minimalist and modern. A simple design of a line border with the company name in the middle usually means 20th or 21st century. More elaborate writing and design comes from the 19th century.
