We have recently come across a cream churn. Large jar that reads ORVUS vertically on jar, with Proctor and Gamble across bottom in raised lettering. The paddles and lid for the churn are in decent shape. What I am trying to find out -- is this a legit cream churn, or could the churning mechanism just have been put on this jar? I am asking because anything I have seen about ORVUS is that is a soap -- for both horses and as a gentle cleanser for quilts. Mostly what I am finding to read is, of course, about Dazey churns. From my research by google. Orvus Prooctor and Gamble Jar I turned up a lot of info. Came with soap paste and displayed in store's. Still made today and sold in animal stores for horses, pet's and material. I also found one with a paddle. I think it was used for mixing the paste with water and washing delicates. One woman used one for washing Alpaca and sheep fleece and also used the jar for mixing dyes. You could use it for butter I suppose. Orvus has been around from !950ties and up. Asking price on E-bay without paddles was $60.00 in 2010.
