Victorian Gold Pique Pin? 2 Years, 10 Months ago

A friend asked me to look at her pins and see if I could tell her what she had, since I have several books on vintage jewelry. I have to admit I am stumped. I have also looked on the Internet and cannot seem to find anything similar. At first I thought maybe Victorian Revival of the 70's, but a look at the back made me think they were much older than that. I also cannot figure out the purpose of the box clasps at the top and bottom. Perhaps they are Victorian, but they seem to be a dark black, instead of tortoiseshell. They measure 1 1/4" x 1".
The cameo face seems to be translucent with some infiltration of a greenish substance (old glue?). They are not signed, but obviously by the same person/manufacturer. Help?
