New to Kovels -- Need Assistance 1 Year ago
I've just begun to try to identify some glassware that came to me from a great-great aunt. I suspect it is about 120+ years old. There are several sets of goblets with matching pitchers, bowls, cups, etc. The first set is 8 goblets with an ornate matching pitcher. The pattern is a daisy. There are no markings to identify the manufacturer. The glass is rather thick, and the pattern is very deep/distinct. The glassware came from South Alabama. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have not been able to locate a photo of the same glassware or pattern. Thank you!

Things to you want to see: blown marks where the rod was put you will see swirls on the bottom and you also want to see bubbles in the glass those are signs it's blown also you want to see if the stickers are still on they can tell you who made them.

Things you don't want to see: hair line cracks that look like fishing line in a way these are developed by being put into a mold and pressed, if you take your normal glass's you will see that and if you upload pictures I can get a better understanding of how old it is, I hope this information was helpull and personally I love glass because of how intricately some of it is done and plus it looks really nice .

The only problem with glass is that with out knowing the maker you can't get the value unless you are an expert on glass and I have studied a bit about glass but I still don't know everything about it and if you have glass candle sticks those are worth tons of money.

You said the daisy or design is very deep/distinct. It sounds to me you might have American Brilliant Cut Glass. Are the glasses cut deep also. This is heavy glass and very bright and clear. Google Cut Glass and you might turn up lot's of club's with pictures.
