I have been instructed that you warm a straight pin with heat and stick it in an indiscreminent spot and it should not poke into the object. It should only cause a white spot, not penetrating the item.

I am not sure with selling ivory in the USA but we in the UK are not allowed to sell or buy ivory or bone after 1947,what is your final sell/buy date?
