Rare old tools are selling for high prices. An Israel White three-arm plow planes auctioned for $31,797 at a 2013 auction in Leicestershire, England. White, who was born in Philadelphia in 1804, patented the tool in 1834. Other craftsmen of the time said the plane was “superior to any plow we have ever seen.” It was made of birch, boxwood, rosewood, ebony, ivory, brass and iron. This example was bought by an American collector.
