Have a small antique rug? A friend keeps his Navaho rugs upside down on the floor so the color won't be faded on the other side when he wants to sell them. I keep my rugs with the best side showing so I can enjoy them.

In the case of a Navajo, how does one tell which is the "right" side?
How would I place the rug upside down?

by hanging them from cup hooks on the walls behind open French doors. They are
protected from strong light, dirt and wear, but the large graphics show nicely
through the glass panes.

A well made Navajo rug does not have a right side or wrong side. They should be
identical. If you want to preserve it, hang it on a wall or throw over the back
of a sofa away from a window. The natural dyes should fade only slightly.
Navajo weavers rarely use blues or purples, the colors most prone to fading. I
lived on the Navajo rez for 40 years, bought many rugs and knew many weavers.
