Q: This pretty child's tea set is over 60 years old and in good condition except that the handle on the teapot's lid is missing. None of the dishes are marked. Each piece illustrates the child's nursery rhyme line, "This is the way we wash our clothes," and pictures a girl washing and ironing clothes. The pieces have gilt trim. I'd like to know if the set is worth anything. We only have one granddaughter and she doesn't want the set, so I plan to get rid of it soon.

A: Since your tea set is not marked, it's not possible to tell who made it, but it's pictured in the book, "Children's Glass Dishes, China and Furniture" by Doris Anderson Lechler. She calls the pattern "Busy Girl" and says it was made in Germany in about 1900. A 16-piece tea set like yours in perfect condition can sell for anywhere from $75 to $100.

I also have a complete tea set which is around 55 years old. It has a pine cone
pattern, 17 pieces in perfect condition. Made in Japan. Can you give me an idea
of value?
