Q: We bought a vase with this mark years ago because the color looked right in our living room. We didn't know who made it, but we knew it was imported.
A: We own a similar vase with a Raymor sticker on the bottom. Raymor was founded by Irving Richards in New York City in 1942 and was in business until the 1980s. It began as a distributor of dinnerware and other items made by Russel Wright and other American designers. Raymor began importing ceramics and other items from Italy and Scandinavia after World War II. Most pieces had a Raymor sticker but not a maker's mark. Raymor was importing unmarked ceramics from Flavia Manifattura Ceramiche Artistiche (Flavia Manufacture Ceramic Artistic) in Montelupo Fiorentino. They used the mark “Flavia.” That mark was also used on pieces sold by Bitossi, another Italian company. The Flavia pieces are handmade and hand-decorated. Your vase would sell for about $200.
