July 2012

Occupied Japan figurines of Chinese people have always been popular, but few are appearing on the market these days and those that do are selling at about triple earlier prices, according to "The Upside Down World of an O.J. Collector" newsletter.

I have a set of small, dark cocoa-colored "elephant ashtrays" marked
Made in Occupied Japan. Their value on the Kovels' website is only a few
dollars, but that was written years ago. I wonder if the set would be worth more
now? (I have lots of elephant figurines and planters from the '40s and '50s that
I'd love to sell!)

Thanks,
Mary

I have almost 400 pieces of OJ. Some really different ones that I bought in
Canada years ago. Now I hope it is finally going to come up in value. I tried
to sell this as a whole unit, but no takers yet. I hate to sell piece by piece
and all the good/unusual ones are gone first.Know any buyers?

I sold my set of Noritake china for $485.00, including serving pieces. I thought
that was a good deal....
