Sometime in 2011 in a private sale, more than $250 million dollars was paid for the famous Cezanne painting, “The Card Players.” It is one of five versions of the painting. The buyer was the royal family of Qatar, a country on the border of Saudi Arabia. It is a world record price for any work of art.

would be turning over in his grave at this price! Not that he doesn’t deserve it, the MOST seminal figure in modern art in my opinion. And much more interesting than Picasso, in my subjective opinion. But still, yikes, that’s a lot of moola for a painting, no matter by who!
