Q: We bought this at a yard sale in Michigan, but we have no idea what it is. Can you help?

A: This interesting tool was used to extract teeth. It's sometimes called a tooth key. Early versions had a straight shaft. Keys with a bent shaft were first made in 1765. The "claw" or hooked end that could be turned or unscrewed and replaced with claws in other sizes was introduced in the late 1700s. Your tooth key was probably made in the mid 1800s. Value: about $100-$200.

This is funny-while watching a storage wars program on TV the other night, there
was one of these found in a storage unit in S. California-so now I know there
are 2 in the world, and if I ever run across one, I'll know what it is!

They just had one of these on Storage Wars the other night. Barry found one in a
Locker. The expert stated the value at $300-400. Very cool to see one here.
