September 2011

Q: I recently purchased a Coney Island souvenir plate at a flea market. The plate measures 7 1/4 inches in diameter and is made of a very soft gray metal. The design is raised and appears in 9 sections, each highlighting an amusement park attraction. It was made in Japan by A.C. Bosselman and Company. I have been a collector for over 30 years and have never seen anything like this plate before. Could you please tell me the age of this item?

A: A.C. Bosselman & Co. was an importer doing business in New York City from 1905 until 1914. The company published postcards and sold souvenir items.

Hi! I know that people often ask just for info but 1: I don't know why they
wouldn't want a value or did they assume you would tell them...and 2: why don't
you tell us anyway? I would think if we are going to come here and read about
something we would always like to know the value.
Thank you, Milt

"Soft, gray metal" is likely to be lead. Keep it up out of the reach of
children, and wash your hands after handling it.
I agree, it would be nice to
know what it's worth.
