A patriotic pin is a good way to show honor and respect for those who died while serving our country. This 1940s "V for Victory" pin is made of translucent plastic and rhinestones and sold for $96 at a Hake's auction.

Memorial Day, originally called Decoration Day, was first observed on May 30, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. After World War I, it was extended to honor U.S. soldiers who died in all wars.
