March 2011

Q: I have a porcelain teapot or water pitcher. On the bottom it says "Alhambra" and has two marks, a circle with the word "Austria" in it and a winged crown.

A: You have a chocolate pot in the Alhambra pattern. The pattern was made by several different porcelain manufacturers in the late 1890s and early 1900s. One online seller is currently offering a "chocolate set" in this pattern that has pieces made by three different companies. The set was probably decorated by one company on blanks it bought from different companies.
