April 2010

Get ready! You can see Terry Kovel in action THIS WEEKEND as Kovels.com links to live web transmission of the April 29 – May 2 public television auction that benefits our local PBS station, WVIZ in Cleveland. You can bid on thousands of items—everything from antiques (Terry herself is doing the auctioning!) to grocery-store gift certificates.

Terry Kovel

For four days, the live "auction action" can be seen via a link at Kovels.com. Items up for bid include antiques, art and collectibles as well as trips, one-of-a-kind events and general merchandise. Antiques are sold at "Table X," so you can tune in when it's "X-time" or watch the whole auction (starting at 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and at noon on Saturday and Sunday).

Auction items are still arriving. The antiques and collectibles departments this year are filled with dishes, glassware and more. The most unusual antique is a group of 19th century wooden gear patterns about 6 feet in diameter. There is more furniture than ever—at least seven dining room sets (two made by Drexel, one an Empire set), a child’s bedroom set by Ethan Allen, Victorian rockers, wrought iron and marble topped period tables, a library table that turns into steps and a Victorian settee. There are Civil War era collar boxes, a samovar with tray, a set of silver-plated tableware, chandeliers, and ceramics by Limoges, Haviland, Hull, Rörstrand, McCoy, Staffordshire, Noritake, Belleek, Russel Wright, and Wedgwood. Clothing, dolls, toys, linens and boxes of costume jewelry are also waiting for buyers.

You can bid online or by phone. Look for instructions on the screen as you're watching the auction. For more information, visit www.WVIZ.org/auction. Please note that successful bidders who live outside the Cleveland area must pay shipping costs for anything larger than a gift certificate.
