March 2008

The Kovels' Top Twenty list is based on the results of hundreds of thousands of searches that took place on its website during the month of February 2008. Visitors to Kovels.com really shook up our top 20 search list this month. The most searched-for category was Coca-Cola, followed by jewelry, furniture and other categories that have been making consistent appearances on our top 20 list.

Pictured here are examples of 10 categories that have not appeared on our previous lists: Bradley & Hubbard (lamp, sold for $1,400, Dallas Auction Gallery), Currier & Ives (print, sold for $50, Stanton Auctions), Dragonware (sugar & creamer, sold for $60, Affiliated Auctions & Realty), Copeland Spode (tea caddy, sold for $25, Bill Hood & Sons Arts & Antiques), Bavaria (platter, sold for $12, Armory Auction), Silver-American (trumpet vase by Tiffany & Co., sold for $1,600, John Moran Auctioneers), Crown Ducal (bud vase, sold for $25, Alderfer Auction), Pepsi-Cola (bottle cap-shaped sign, sold for $75, Premier Auction Center), Coin-operated machine (soda fountain jukebox, sold for $275, Cowan's Auctions) and Salt & pepper (Dutch boy and girl, selling for $12 in and online shop).

The complete Top Twenty for February 2008 are:

1. Coca-Cola
2. Capo-Di-Monte
3. Jewelry
4. Furniture
5. Occupied Japan
6. Hutschenreuther
7. Royal Dux
8. Stove
9. World War II
10. Bradley & Hubbard
11. Currier & Ives
12. Dragonware
13. Copeland Spode
14. Bavaria
15. Silver-American
16. Josef Originals
17. Crown Ducal
18. Pepsi-Cola
19. Coin-operated machine
20. Salt & pepper

People use Kovels' website and price guides for a number of reasons, the most common that they are just trying to determine the value of an item that they own. If an item is not listed on the Top Twenty list, it does not mean that it's unpopular or that there isn't a demand for it. It only means that in February there was less interest.
