Italian Poster: Item of the Week
Print
September 2007

Ché sorpresa indeed!

This rare Italian poster sped off the block last month at Swann Auction Galleries in New York for a cool and breezy $24,000, a record-breaking price for an art deco poster of its type. Two bidders fought for the 55 by 44-inch poster, which announces a speed boat race in Genoa, Italy in May of 1931, and features a pair of sleek motorboats rounding a buoy.

A glamorous image from a desirable era in excellent condition-and a huge price-all help to make this an important collectible.
