"The single most historic and important wooden minnow to ever come to auction," claimed Lang's Auctions, and they were right. On November 4, 2006, Lang's sold the 3 7/8-inch wooden lure for $46,500. Probably made in the late 1890s, it has characteristics of the first Pardee string-tied minnows and closely resembles the Trory Minnow and, according to Lang's, is probably the predecessor to all American wooden underwater minnows. If you aren't a fisherman, you probably won't understand why this tiny fishing lure sold for $46,500-a record price.
