Everyday dishes were made by many potteries in the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. Many of the companies are relatively unknown to collectors. Decorative American Pottery & Whiteware by Klamm Wilby (Collector Books, $29.95, c2004, 288 pages) pictures hundreds of pieces and marks from more than 60 factories. Included are well-known companies like Buffalo Pottery and Homer Laughlin China Company, as well as lesser-known potteries like Warner-Keffer China Company and Lebeau Porcelaine. A good starting place for a new collector. |
